2007 Lynxes CC 60th Anniversary Dinner

The 60 th Anniversary of the Cricket Week was celebrated with a dinner for Lynxes and their guests at the School on Saturday July 21st. Around 50 people, including Mr Philip Humphreys, Master i/c School Cricket, attended the evening, and Graeme Edmonds, the School chef, provided a wonderful buffet. The Toast to the Guests was proposed by Jeremy Barham; Nigel Wheeler, High Sheriff of Kent and co-founder of the Scorpions CC (Eastbourne old boys), responded in very amusing fashion. Tim Spelling, Chairman of Lynxes CC, also spoke before an auction (expertly handled by Richard Hillier) raised nearly £600 for club funds, which the Lynxes hope to combine with money from school sources to further improve the facilities on Bigside.

Lynxes Week July 15th - July 22nd

Our move to the first week after the end of term has been, in principle, a success. In addition, the movement of the important fixture vs the School to the first Monday of the week (rather than the usual mid-term slot) looks like the right one, despite some minor teething troubles this year. Our thanks must go to Mr Philip Humphreys for getting his boys together on the first day of the holidays (no mean feat), and for coaching such an excellent side. We look forward to working closely with him to ensure the future success of this fixture as one of the most important dates in the OCA calendar.

The rest of the week saw some exceptional cricket on what now seems to be the best Bigside square for some years. Again, our thanks must go to the School groundstaff for their efforts in preparing such a true set of wickets for us to play on. The measure of the quality of this square and outfield were the 562 runs scored in total on Wednesday's fixture vs the Fleet Street Exiles!

Inevitably we lost one fixture to this summer's appalling weather (Friday's match vs Old Georgians), but another casualty was the Sissinghurst match (Sunday 15th), for which we could not raise a side. The Scorpions' match was postponed.
We are hoping to be able to unveil a revised schedule for next year's Lynxes Week, with a 'festival' match against the School to start the week off on Saturday July 12th, to which all OCs interested in the state of School and Lynxes cricket are encouraged to come, and to eat, drink, and be merry. We urge all OCs interested in playing some cricket up on Big Side with their old School friends to sign up for next year's fixtures.
